What if I drive my car without insurance?

Posted by admin under Common Questions

Unfortunately, some people decide to break the law and drive their car without insurance. If you’re one of these people, the law is definitely not on your side.

The laws vary on driving without insurance depending on the state that you live in. The vast majority of states have very strict laws about you having to have car insurance. If you don’t choose to follow these laws and insure your vehicle, you can face very harsh fines and penalties.

At the very least, you should depend on having your driver’s license revoked and/or suspended, as well as having your car impounded. You will also now have (or add to) a police record about yourself as you will be more than likely charged with breaking the law.

The worst consequences come when you break the law and drive without insurance, but then cause an accident involving another motor vehicle. On top of the fines, loss of driving privileges, and newly-revised police record, you’ll also have to pay for the damage that you cause. These damages can be astronomical depending on the type of accident — you may end up having to pay to repair or replace someone else’s vehicle, as well as doctor and hospital bills and perhaps even reimbursement for loss wages that they encountered by being out of work. That doesn’t even include your medical bills or damaged/destroyed vehicle.

Think about the above before you drive without insurance. Even though your budget may be tight and you simply don’t think you can afford another $100-$200 a month for car insurance, think about how much it’ll cost if you have to pay $20,000 after an accident.
